Imagination Day
This term we our concept was imagination. We have been reading and writing narrative stories. We read and wrote many different stories – fairy tales, super hero stories, myths and legends. We had an imagination day to celebrate our learning.
On the day we made creative shapes with food, did some geometric artwork and designed masks. We used “How Maui Slowed the Sun” by Peter Gossage to inspire our Maori mask designs.
Shape Makers
We used what we learnt about geometry to make our own 3D shapes. We described the shape’s faces, edges and corners.
We are Poets

Explaining Artists Ideas
Yesterday we skyped Alex Bartleet to learn about being an artist and creating art. We found out lots of information about him and he showed us his artwork.
Later we discussed what influences artists and where they get their ideas from.
Artists can get there ideas from…
- looking at things around the world
- looking at other people work, not copying but taking ideas
- looking on websites
- learning at art school
- looking at things around them
- university
- using there imagination
- using their prior knowledge about things that have happened in the past
- using lots of materials
- finding interesting things to use
- getting information off the computer
- using different elements
- watching people
Off to Grandma’s
We used the well known fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood” to inspire our own narrative stories. Here is some of the writing we wanted to share:
Little Red Riding Hood – by CJ
It was a sunny day in the forest. The forest was a beautiful place. It had bright green grass and leaves and brown branches. There were pink and yellow flowers and there were more rainbow colours. They sky looked bright blue. It smelled nice and fresh and it smelled like strawberry’s too. There were lots of butterflies flying around. Everything was shiny.
There was a girl and her name was Little Red Riding Hood. She looked beautiful and she sounded a bit loud and a bit soft. She liked helping her mother.
One day Little Red Riding Hood’s grandma got very very sick. Her mother called little red riding hood’s name, she walked inside to her mother. Her mother said “go take this cake, fruit and food to your grandmother, your grandma is expecting your visit, and don’t talk to stranger and don’t walk off the path. Then she went off and she was singing a song. She got a bot scared because she was stepping on little black branches but then a big bad wolf was spying on her and she never knew. Then the big bad wold came out the big bad wolf said, “where are you going?”. Then Little Red Riding Hood said, “I must not talk to strangers and he kept on talking to her. The big bad wolf said, “Where is your grandma’s home?”. Then The Big Bad Wolf told Little Red Riding Hood to pick some flowers for her grandmother. And off he went to grandmothers home.
Then The Big Bad wolf knocked on the door and the grandmother said “who is it?”. “It’s me your little grand daughter. Then the grandmother said “speak up I can’t hear you?”. He replied “Its me your little grand daughter”. Then her grand mother said “oh come in dear The Big Bad Wolf came in and when he came in the grandmother yelled “ahhh, it’s The Big Bad Wolf!”. Then quickly The Big Bad wolf gobbled grandma up. Then The Big Bad Wolf had a rest in her bed. Then after he had his rest he dressed up as grandma, then straight away. Little Red Riding Hood appeared where the door was. She knocked on the door, she said, “It’s me Little Red Grandma”. The wolf said, “Come in Little Red Riding Hood, come closer…

Analysing Art
We are learning to analyse are we are looking at different artworks and making comments about:
- media – tools used to create the art work (paint, dye etc)
- elements – what the the artwork features (line, texture, shape, value, colour and space)
- techniques – the way the artist uses the media (long brush strokes, shading etc)
Can you comment about the media, elements and techniques these artists have use?
